About this whisky
Bowmore was founded in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal, making it one of the oldest distilleries on Islay. Its famous No.1 Vaults, which sit partly below sea level, are among the oldest whisky maturation warehouses in Scotland, and the sea air seeps into the casks resting there. Bowmore is also one of the few distilleries that still turns some of its own barley on traditional malting floors, drying it over Islay peat.
The 12 Year Old shows the gentler side of Islay. Subtle notes of lemon and honey sit alongside Bowmore's distinctive smoke, and the palate is warm and rounded, with dark chocolate and peat smoke lingering into the finish. Balanced rather than brash, it is a fine bridge for drinkers who enjoy Speyside malts and want to try something smokier, and a characterful gift for the curious. Pour it neat, add a dash of water, or try it in a smoky Highball.
