About this whisky
Indri comes from the village of the same name in Haryana's Karnal district, where Piccadily Agro Industries built a single malt distillery and introduced the whisky in 2021. In a few short years it has become one of the most talked-about names in Indian single malt. The recipe starts with six-row barley grown in Rajasthan, distilled in copper pot stills, and the north Indian climate, with its hot summers and cool winters, pushes spirit and wood together quickly. Trini, meaning three, refers to the three cask types used: ex-bourbon, ex-French wine and Pedro Ximénez sherry.
The result is layered and generous. Expect black tea, caramelised pineapple, honey, raisins and sweet cherry on the nose, then oak, vanilla, blackberries, hazelnut and orange zest on the palate, with a warm, gently spiced finish. Bottled at 46%, it stands up well to a splash of water. It makes a smart Diwali or corporate gift and is a good bottle to open with friends who still think great single malt only comes from Scotland.
