About this whisky

Jack Daniel's has been made in Lynchburg, Tennessee, since 1866, and the square bottle with the black label is recognised the world over. What makes it Tennessee whiskey rather than bourbon is one patient extra step: before it goes into the barrel, the new spirit is mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, which smooths the spirit and shapes its character. Only then is it matured in barrels in the distillery's warehouses, until the tasters decide it is ready.

In the glass, Old No. 7 is complex but well balanced: dried fruit, oak and a delicate spiciness on the nose, then dried fruit, wood and vanilla on the palate, finishing dry and lingering. It is just as at home on the rocks as in a long drink, and it is the bottle most guests will recognise at a house party. A safe, well-liked choice for gifting to friends who enjoy American whiskey.
