About this whisky
Before 1824, the remote glen of the Livet was known for illicit whisky smuggled over the hills to the cities of the south. That year George Smith became one of the first distillers in the area to take out a legal licence, a bold step that angered his neighbours; he reportedly carried a pair of pistols for protection. The Glenlivet has been shaping the Speyside style ever since, and its name is one most whisky drinkers recognise.
The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of American and European oak casks, giving a light, fruity and floral malt with ripe pear, soft apple and a bright touch of pineapple, finishing smooth and creamy. Bottled at 40%, it is a reliable choice for someone moving up from blended Scotch: easy to share when friends come over, and always welcome as a gift. Enjoy it neat, over ice, or in a long Highball.
