About this whisky
In 1824 George Smith took out one of the first licences to distil legally in the remote glen of the Livet, and The Glenlivet has helped define the Speyside style ever since. The 15 Year Old adds a twist from France: part of the spirit is matured in casks of Limousin oak from the Dordogne, the wood traditionally used for Cognac. The time in those casks is carefully controlled, so the oak adds spice and richness without overwhelming the distillery's fruity character.
The result is softer and rounder than the classic 12, with a little more warmth. It is creamy, rich and buttery on the nose, then fruity and nutty on the palate with a delicate spice, finishing on sweet almonds. Bottled at 40%, it sits comfortably in the glass with or without a splash of water. A smart choice for wine and Cognac lovers who are curious about malt, and an elegant, widely recognised gift for Diwali or a corporate hamper.
