About this beer
Amstel takes its name from the river that runs through Amsterdam, where the brewery first opened its doors in 1870. That date sits proudly on the label of Amstel Grande, a beer created by United Breweries, the Heineken-backed brewer behind Kingfisher, specifically for Indian drinkers who prefer a fuller, stronger lager. It arrived in Maharashtra in late 2024 and reached West Bengal that December, with pack artwork that nods to Amsterdam's canal houses and bridges.
In the glass, Amstel Grande pours a deep gold with a firm white head. It is brewed with barley, Dutch yeast and selected hops, and slowly matured, which gives a rounder malt body and a smoother finish than many strong beers. It suits those who like their beer with weight and flavour but without harshness. Keep a few chilled bottles for a weekend adda with friends, or serve alongside a spread of kebabs at a house party. A sensible pick for anyone trading up from mainstream strong lagers.
