About this beer

Carlsberg was founded in Copenhagen in 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen, and the brewery's most famous landmark is the Elephant Gate: four granite elephants carrying a tower over the entrance. Carlsberg Elephant takes its name and its emblem from that gate. The beer arrived in India in 2011 and quickly found a following among strong-beer drinkers; in 2024 Carlsberg India relaunched it with a sharper, more modern pack.

Carlsberg describes Elephant simply as a full-bodied, full-flavoured beer, and that is exactly what you get: a deep golden lager with a rich malt backbone, a little caramel sweetness and enough hop bitterness to keep it balanced. The 500 ml can is easy to chill and easy to carry, whether you are stocking the fridge for a cricket match or setting up for a terrace evening. It is a good choice for guests who prefer a stronger, more substantial beer with their food.
