About this beer
Birra Peroni began in 1846 when Francesco Peroni opened a small brewery in Vigevano, before moving the business to Rome. In 1963 the company launched Nastro Azzurro, meaning 'Blue Ribbon', named after the Blue Riband prize won by the Italian ocean liner Rex for the fastest Atlantic crossing in 1933. Its slim bottle and blue-and-red label are now seen in bars across the world.
What sets Nastro Azzurro apart is a proprietary variety of Italian maize used alongside barley malt, which gives a lighter, crisper body. Expect a pale golden lager with a delicate balance of bitterness, citrus and a hint of spice, and a quick, clean finish. It is a natural partner for food, especially Italian dishes and seafood, and its understated style suits dinner parties and long lunches. Our Peroni is imported, making it a smart pick for those who appreciate a European lager.
