About this beer
Corona Extra was first brewed in 1925 at Cervecería Modelo in Mexico City, and its clear glass bottle with the painted label has since become one of the most recognisable sights in any bar in the world. The ritual of pushing a wedge of lime into the neck started in Mexico and travelled with the beer, turning Corona into shorthand for beaches and sunshine. Today it belongs to AB InBev, and the Corona sold in India is brewed under licence.
This is a light, bright, easy-drinking lager: pale straw in colour, with soft cereal sweetness, a hint of fruit and very little bitterness. The lime adds a zesty lift that makes it especially refreshing in Kolkata's warmer months. It is a crowd-pleaser for poolside afternoons, barbecues and casual dinners, and a sensible choice when you want something light alongside spicy or fried food. Serve it very cold and keep the lime wedges ready.
